Beach Furnace ______________________________________________________________________ After 2- 3 yrs of alternative heat, I’ve decided to go back to using my gas furnace. The “gas- man”, upon first looking at my relic said, “Oh one of these.” The usual service the utility provides is hook up and pilot lighting. I’m pretty sure the ignitor isn’t working as I’ve tried to get the blasted thing lit for the past few days. Any advice? New ignitor? Or is there a better fix? 30 yr old Beach Furnace. It seemed in good shape to him, but couldn’t spend much time going into detail. I’m looking for some advice on how to light the pilot without taking the whole thing apart. Is there an easy way? Freon “Re(3): 3. Beach Furnace” , posted Fri 2. Sep 1. 6: 1. 0 ______________________________________________________________________ Look for pilot light lighting instructions. They’re usually there, somewhere. On older systems, the pilot is usually lit by turning the furnace gas valve to “Pilot”, then depressing it while you hold a match to where the pilot flame would be. After the pilot flame appears, continue holding the valve for possibly 2. If it goes out, hold the valve knob down longer. If you can’t get it to initially light, check that you can hear gas at the pilot light jet. It’s possible there may be a little air in the line but that will only prevent initial lighting, not the pilot going out after the 2. If it continually goes out, I suspect you’ll have to remove the pilot assembly and replace the flame sensor.
